Pottery is the new video
This show is an installation of figurative and abstract sculptural ceramics combined with video and other materials. The artist is interested in using the low status of ceramics as a subversive strategy within an experimental and cross-disciplinary art context. These fragile coil-built sculptures transgress on several levels; they are ceramics, a marginalised discipline, made of a low material, clay; they are highly crafted, demonstrating the manual skill of the artist; they are objects, not ephemera; they are traditionally figurative not abstract; their intensely decorated surfaces and intriguing shapes are visually attractive; they are sexual, extreme and humourous.
