Description

Two exhibitions - Animalia and Melting Moments at Global Gallery 5 Comber St, Paddington.
Animalia by Irianna Kanellopoulou
Kanellopoulou’s ceramic artwork explores issues of identity and transience through a sense of play. The ceramic artist uses a collection of icons from popular culture to investigate emotional associations with everyday objects and memories. She aims to challenge preconceptions and expectations of clay as a material while commenting on our cultural, social and individual identities with humour. Animalia captures figures and objects in fleeting moments to reveal a network of masked identities, fragmented conversations and hidden emotions. Working with modules allows relationships between forms to develop, investigating the life of an object outside of its initial intent and purpose.

Melting Moments
by Maria Parmenter
There is a strange beauty in the ordinary, the everyday and the unspoken rituals that surround the simple poetry that is daily life. Parmenter's work attempts to highlight this beauty through notions of memory and personal experience, located firmly within the domestic realm. Her interest lies in exploring the space between, the connection between ones reality and the unknown. The sense or feeling, the essence, the sentiment that exists somewhere between the familiar and the unfamiliar.
